A day in the life of a freelancer

so I am sitting here with a lot of things in my head... they range from the current house I'm designing, to tommorrow's interview, to the future..... I am definetely nervous about the interview, although this is nothing new... however, I'm not sure if this is the job I want to do. It is somewhat related to Architecture/Planning, but not really. I can't seem to find the perfect work situation, nor can I make my business take off. I've also had a project from the early days come back to haunt me because of a mere 6" difference in property lines..... although this is not my fault since the owner nor the city never asked for a survey to be done, until an Inspector put a stop order. However, the people I did that job for, are those that look to blame someone, so they think it is my fault. I really don't care, and I know it is not my fault, but knowing these people, they can easily tarnish my reputation amongst other contacts.....and that is what worries me.... I really want to continue working on my own, and not lose the liberties that I have by going to work for the man, but at the same time the money is not right, and I need to make the grad school fund increase. What to do? What to do? I hate having these unknowns clear in the horizon... and not being really able to resolve and decide what to do.

I've been reading some more blogs other than the good ol' GRD... and some of the stuff is quite interesting.... props to all those true day in day out bloggers.... if only I could do such a good job at writing as you..... peace

Wow since the last time I blogged something lots of things happened. The man I mentioned in my previous post died two weeks later, while the machines were still connected, which brings me to this question.... I can only imagine what Terri Schiavo's parents felt, but why was it all over the media and the courts??? I grew tired of turning on the TV everyday and hearing about her story.... there are many more people in the same situation, so what was so different or special about her??? I think that if it's someone's time to go it does not matter if they have a machine connected or not, or if the courts and politicos decide for you... it's ultimately up to the man upstairs...... anyways..... march was kind of odd in that I threw out my back playing some b-ball, and then I came down with a cold, and then a Tio Abuelo passed away..... but among all these negative things.... the design jobs have started to come around.... I guess all people were waiting for was for the sun to come out.... so now I'm real busy..... I may not post again for a while....

so I'm pretty bad at typing stuff out...... I rather draw it, than type it........ still no job offers or good prospects..... I'm thinking maybe with the time I have free I should take a trip somewhere, and reenergize the body and soul...... the only thing holding me back is that I still have some jobs waiting for approval from the respective building departments...... the other day I was at the waiting room of an ICU because my Tia's (Mom's cousin) husband had a brain hemmorage, and all I can say is that it was on of those real eerie moments where you can feel that death is right next door.... someday I'll post the thoughts I wrote down in my Ipaq while I sat there.....

so about two weeks ago I sent a resume to a firm that is owned by an old professor. They are hiring apparently, due to the fact that they posted an as on a website...... so it's been 11 days and I have still not heard a word from them....... not even a got your e-mail... we'll get back to you... nothing.... other places I've sent resumes always get back to you the very latest two days later.... I know I didn't do bad work in their studio.. I got an A... so what is the deal?? I'm this close to selling out and working for a corporate firm.. being a CAD monkey all day...... sad part is even those with M.Arch's are CAD monkeys.... grd is right..... should have studied law or medicine..... but it's not what I love......

for a job in the architecture world that pays enough to live in the Bay Area and that has some benefits is like finding a needle in a hay stack.... and right now the business is slow with people focusing on x-mas shopping instead of remodeling or building homes... couple that with bad weather and it puts a dent in my finances.... something has to give..... if not in architecture, then in something else.....

Let me try this thing out.....
